Vayra's Questions

Answering Vayra's questions.

1) What class knows the most martial arts? Are they real martial arts like kung fu, or made up ones like krav maga?

So far, there's no martial artists. I'm not very into monks or really much that's up that alley so it's just wholly excluded.

2) Can I start out having already made a deal with the devil or do I have to do that in game?

You have to do it in-game because I just want an excuse to use the word diegetic. I might let you start having already made a deal with a devil, but I really like the idea of the there generic classes and others only being made available when you've encountered them in world.

3) Do you want me to write an 8-page backstory? Can I write an 8-page backstory, if I want to? If I write something down in it like I'm the timelost princess of the brass city and the daughter of the sun and I commanded legions in the Hell War but was betrayed by my father's vizier but I don't know that, or that I'm elf conan and cooler than everyone else, will that be true?

I don't want you to write an eight page backstory, I want you to start from just random future corpse and give them a story through play. You can do as you please, but it's not necessary for the game. Either way, I'll read it. I'm down for your convoluted backstory being a thing if your character comes in suffering from delusions of grandeur, or amnesia, or schizophrenia or the backstory is true, but they're weakened because of [reasons], but this is a case by case thing.

4) If I eat someone's heart, will I gain their powers? What about their brain?

Fuckin' definitely. Druids ritualistically fight, kill and consume animals to gain new shape shifting abilities. Eating a Wizard's brain would give you either some of their spells or some of their Magic Dice and the same with a Sorcerer, but for them it's the heart.

5) These classes are boring, can I be one from somewhere else? What about from a different system entirely?

This is a case by case thing. If I know you, I trust you, you're not in it "for the lulz" and we talked about one on one - definitely. It also depends on the class, where you got it, etc. I'd rather say yes, but if you're trying to slip a Century Egg into my tray of deviled eggs or a durian fruit into my fruit salad then it's a hard no.

6) If I make a sword, which one of us gets to name it?

If your character makes a sword, does all the work - your character names it. If you commission a blacksmith, they might name it or they might leave it to you. If you take a mundane sword and do mighty deeds with it, it might develop its own identity around your deeds which is like you naming it by proxy. If you create a magic sword in a laboratory, you probably name it, but it might have an identity crisis later down the road.

7) Am I allowed to kill the other player characters? What would I have to do to be allowed to? Do I win if I kill them all? Actually, how do I win in general?

No. PvP always devolves into "This is my new character X, specifically built to avenge my old character W! He's built specifically to counter W's arch nemesis &". It's fun for like two seconds, then it's just dumb.

8) What language stands in for 'Common'? Or what are we all talking to each other in? Like the party, mostly, but also everyone else?

Trader's Tongue, essentially just a common language made up to be as simple as possible so that various cultures would always be able to trade goods with each other.

9) How do I learn how to talk to rocks? No not once a day just, like, normally?

You could research/commission a spell to speak to rocks. You could spend your initial bonus languages on knowing the language of rocks. You could be a druid. You could be some sort of elemental. You could learn the language dietetically - oh look I got to say it again!

10) Which kinds of wizards get to serve kings and live in towers and shit and which ones are run out of town or stoned to death in the streets? Can I be both? At the same time?

Magic is evil and relies on a paradigm of slavery. All magic users are viewed as inherently, but each one will be able to push the envelope in their own way to their own  degree.
